[Steam Review] Nameless ~ The one thing you must recall ~

Nameless ~The one thing you must recall~ follows high schooler [INSERT NAME HERE] who has a passion for collecting ball-jointed dolls. Chaos and romance ensues when her own dolls mysteriously turn into humans one day...

The following is my spoiler-free review with a TL;DR at the end.

❤Characters:

The steam page doesn't give a basic outline for the romanceable characters, so I will do so here. Aside from you, those listed bellow are all dolls-turned-human.

- You: Stereotypically dense, but a troubled family life makes her a more interesting otome protagonist than others.

- Yeonho: Cute and innocent, and very clingy. Calls you 'Master' a lot.

- Lance: Cold, calculating, prefers to keep to himself. Recommended for tsundere-likers.

- Yuri: The playboy of the group. He's also written out to be the oldest.

- Tei: A motherly type of guy. That might sound odd, but he's as caring and capable as one.

- Red: Have you ever seen a Super Sentai protagonist? That's this character.

Each doll has their basic surface personality, but also holds some kind of deeper, inner insecurities that you as the protagonist help bring to light and comfort them over. There is also one additional route that unlocks after all the others are completed.

❤Plot:

After protagonist [INSERT NAME HERE]'s grandpa died and left her to live alone in his house, she relied mainly on her ball-jointed dolls to keep her company, but keeps them a secret from her friends out of fear that she'll be made fun of. When they suddenly turn into humans, they integrate themselves into her school life and help her feel not-so-lonely anymore. Each route typically follows the same beats of school life, the school festival, midterm exams, and going to an amusement park at one point. Outside of that, though, a new story is available through each playthrough.

The more that is played, the more overarching plot is unlocked, so over time it becomes explained as to why these dolls have become humans and what that means for the protagonist. But I won't be telling any of that here, because that'll ruin it!

❤Gameplay:

Nameless is a visual novel in ADV format, so heavy amounts of reading are expected. The protagonist also has a phone which will occasionally receive texts from other characters (though it is definitely not up to the same level as Cheritz's other title Mystic Messenger, before you start assuming), and also has a diary to read back certain events from. There are multiple choices to be made through each of the routes, and picking the wrong ones can result in bad endings. During midterms, you have to answer questions based on information from the game, and through getting a good grade and completing other routes, diaries of other characters are unlocked and are available to read on the main menu.

All of these extra things in my opinion are very good for Nameless to have, as they make the world of the game feel more lived in and the characters more real- this is especially so for the diaries, which are written in other people's perspectives.

There's also a bonus menu with voiced comments from various characters' voice actors, as the whole game is voiced (sans the protagonist), but these are not translated from Korean.

❤My Review:

Nameless was something I took forever to play, but I'm glad I finally got around to finishing it. I do think the plot of Nameless is good fun, and I felt myself moved by the protagonist in particular at points for the aforementioned family troubles she has. The plot requires a lot of suspension of belief- sort of like an over the top K-drama, if I had to compare it to something. If that's your thing, go for this! If you want something really grounded in reality, clicking on this doll game is not for you.

❤tl;dr:

Would I recommend you play this game? Yes!

Would I recommend you play all of this game? YES- it's a must.

Does this game offer a lot of content? Absolutely. Several bad endings per route, plus unlocking extra diaries so you can read from different characters' perspectives are a bonus.

Is this game hard? There are choices where it is obvious what the right thing to do is, so not particularly.

I rate this game a 8/10.

Hope I helped! ❤ lone
